About STN
Sheffield Talking News (S.T.N.) is a small registered charity (No 1001700)  which produces each week over 200 audio cassettes and 200 CDs and 50 memory sticks of local news for anyone who is blind, visually impaired or unable to read a newspaper through disability. Arrangements with both the Sheffield Star and Telegraph and the Yorkshire Post allow us to include the content of their publications without infringement of copyright - we are most grateful for this concession. An occasional magazine is also produced throughout the year. There is no charge for the service which is  delivered by Royal Mail free of charge.
STN also produces audio tapes and CDs for other local organisations including the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) newsletter; South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau (SYFAB) Funding News; Sheffield Homes In Touch magazines; Sheffield Care Trust; Sheffield City Council (various departments). Income from this work helps subsidise other costs and along with a wide number of individual donations allows STN to continue to provide its service at no cost to its listeners. Can you help us to help others?
We are always looking for people willing to help us to assist others keep in touch with local events that they might otherwise remain unaware of. There is always a ready welcome available to new volunteers who can help us to ensure that the service we provide remains FREE of charge to those it benefits.

We have now received a new supply of memory sticks and a new batch of memory stick readers.
For this good fortune we must thank Sheffield Town trust and Sheffield Church Burgesses for their most generous help.

Now we need the help of our listeners who receive the recordings on CDs.
During the last year we have had to buy 12,000 CDs which we cannot re-use so they are a continual expense, which is not very good for our finances, and no one in Sheffield can recycle them, so they end up in landfill sites, which is not very good for our environment.
If you are willing to change over to Memory Sticks and the new easy to use Memory Stick readers, will you telephone us
on 0114 2780440 on a Tuesday

All the latest reports from the people who have tried them are very supportive and everyone wishes to continue with Memory Sticks
